Location
The Kalahari Desert is located in South-West Africa quite a way in from the coast. The Kalahari Desert is surrounded by the larger Kalahari Basin. It is located just beneath the tropics, but it shares very few of their climatic traits.
Climate Details
The temperatures often rise to over 40 degrees. Annual rainfall is between 50-100mm, and often falls below 50mm. this rainfall only occurs between December and April due to the tropical storms that occur north of the desert. Some of this precipitation comes into the Kalahari. During the winter, the temperature is around 25 degrees and it is usually dry. However, the nights are deadly cold. Due to the dryness of the winter, many animals come out in search of water. This combination of mild tropical precipitation and high temperatures and aridity creates a unique Desert biome.
